About us…

We’re Hanne and Rachel, professional chefs and caterers based in South East London. Together we have over 15 years of experience working in the hospitality industry.

We met in a restaurant kitchen years ago, bonded over a bunch of heritage carrots and never looked back. After a throw away comment from Jay Rayner in a review featuring our lunchtime fair, ‘Butch Salads’ was born in 2017.

We cook from the heart and the joy of eating is always at the centre of every plate of food. We are inspired by an amazing community of cooks, food writers and eaters who surround us.

We believe eating together is one of life’s most precious occasions and we feel lucky that this is something we are able to bring to you and yours.

We have a passion for ingredient led cooking. Cooking with the seasons with well sourced ingredients, which we gather from a list of trusted suppliers. Our menus are ever changing as we are always on the hunt for new and exciting ideas.

We pride ourselves on cooking good food for everyone, inclusive of all dietary requirements; not leaving food for people with specific diets, intolerances or allergies as an afterthought.

As well as catering, we also offer recipe development, food styling services and kitchen consultancy services.

Whatever you’re looking for, we’d love to hear from you.

Rachel Rumbol

Rachel started her career as a chef by happy accident, when she applied for a job as a waitress and ended up getting a job working as an oyster shucker at Wright Brothers London. She quickly progressed up the ranks of the kitchen and worked at a handful of London restaurants and catering companies.

Rachel is always thinking up new recipes and improving old ones. She is industrious to say the least and always keen to find a way of shoe horning a good meal into any activity. Throughout COVID-19 she and a small team provided daily meals to vulnerable members of her local community in Southwark, South East London as well as helping to provide over 7,400 meals to the NHS during the pandemic.
